Justin LaSelva, Senior Class Representative

Preserving our traditions and culture for future students

In the administration's push to disallow things that are "stupid", vital Wesleyan traditions—and the culture that sustains them—are being tossed by the wayside. We must not stand for such attacks on what makes Wesleyan unique. To retain the culture of Wesleyan for ourselves and future generations of students, we need to protect events and traditions that have been passed down to us by previous generations of Wesleyan students.

Spring Fling

Failure to preserve our traditions, and to allow for the creativity to form new ones, will not only lead to student apathy and anger, but will also make Wesleyan no different than our competitor schools.

Turning Wesleyan into Williams is not in this University's best interest.

As your Senior Class Representative, I will:

  • Demand that ResLife stop holding funds for Zonker Harris Day and Duke Day hostage. The names are essential parts of the festivals, and are central pieces of Wesleyan culture.
  • Oppose ResLife's plans to downsize WestCo.
  • Allow fraternities greater freedom to regulate themselves.
  • Work with Public Safety to define a clear party policy and prevent the breakup of parties without just cause.
  • Support architectual choices that preserve the historical traditions and eclectic aesthetic of Wesleyan's campus.
  • Resist the University's plans to sell off woodframe houses, which are an important part of most Wesleyan seniors' experiences.

We've worked together to achieve victory. Now, let's work together for change.
